The 2012 OIRCA Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 2 p.m.  The meeting location will once again be Toronto’s distinctive Old Mill located at 21 Old Mill Road in west-end Toronto.  The AGM will be held in conjunction with two morning business sessions.

The OIRCA Board of Directors recently announced that the inaugural winner of the OIRCA Award of Merit is Mr. Dave Walden, the former owner of OIRCA Member Company Conestoga Roofing & Sheet Metal Ltd. of Cambridge. He is currently the owner of OIRCA Industry Member Conestoga Solar Inc. also based in Cambridge.

Earlier this year, the Association announced that a new Membership Award had been established to recognize an individual from a member company who has made a significant contribution to the OIRCA or the greater roofing industry in this province. The candidate may have contributed over an entire career or been responsible for one particular project or event that proved substantial or consequential to the industry.

On an annual basis, the membership will be asked to nominate a candidate for this prestigious award. An Awards Committee made up of the President, Past President and 1st Vice President will review the list of potential candidates and make a decision if one of them is worthy. An award may not necessarily be granted annually; only when someone truly deserving is identified.

Mr. Walden’s service to the Association as a Past President, member of the Board of Directors, and member of various committees most notably Technical, including serving as its Chair, certainly makes him an ideal candidate for such an award.

That being said, his unrelenting desire to see an OIRCA training centre built in the province, along with his personal and financial commitment to see it become a reality, make him the obvious choice for first recipient of the award.

The award will be presented at the Association’s Annual General Meeting to be held on January 26, 2012 at the Old Mill in Toronto.

Cindott Inc. and Building Envelpoe Technology Inc. have announced their fall training course. This intensive 4-day course examines various new and older types of roofing systems in use today.
